East Vail

The backcountry terrain in East Vail ranges from Northeast to Southeast facing, and is known to be incredibly dangerous and avalanche-prone with a high tally of tragic deaths through the years. Several areas have massive cliffs and large mandatory drops and every skiable zone is a terrain trap owing to the fact that they're all steep chutes and gullies. There are also unskiable chutes mixed in with them that end in impassable cliffs. It is not recommended to venture out to East Vail without someone who knows the area, or during times when there is any amount of avalanche danger.
