Star Mountain Northeast Chutes
The avalanche chutes on Star Mountain are extremely dangerous. They should not be skied when there is any avy risk present. Even during the Winter when the pass is closed, there still could be innocent people down on the road below you. The avalanche paths are lettered from A to F from East to West. There was a tragic avalanche in 2014 in Star Mountain A, and these chutes have a history of huge, serious slides. The narrow and rocky sections of some of these chutes may not be frequently skiable. Star Mountain D is marked in red because of cliffs blocking the chokepoint. Unfavorable wind loading makes this zone especially prone to slides.
