The Maid
Properly known as “The Maid of Orleans Slide Path.” This is a dangerous South facing avalanche gully that runs down to Peru Creek Road. This chute faces South and sees a lot of sun and does not stay filled in all year so don’t just assume it has coverage. Some people do this run as a sidecountry tour from A-basin on a tour off of Thurman’s Bowl, leaving a shuttle car down at the parking area, which is where Peru Creek Road meets Montezuma Road. A huge natural avalanche in January of 2017 destroyed trees and a historic structure, demonstrating the danger of this zone when it runs. There is another structure and a highly used skin track directly in the line of fire, so think about the consequences before you drop into this line and risk someone else’s life.
